Back To The Beach!
Help Us Raise Awareness & Funds for Our Loved Ones with Down Syndrome
The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville is excited to host our 19th Annual Buddy Walk®. This year, Buddy Walk is heading back to the beach! Our walk will be held on Saturday, October 16, at the Jacksonville Beach SeaWalk Pavilion.
Last year, the virtual Buddy Walk raised more than $240,000 thanks to countless generous contributions from our community! As we look toward 2021’s event, we plan to host more than 3,500 participants from across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, which will provide great publicity and recognition for our sponsors. As always, the day will be centered on celebrating individuals with Down syndrome as well as their families and friends. The walk is one mile down beautiful Jacksonville Beach and back. Our Buddy Walk celebration promises good times, great food, entertainment, carnival games and attractions, and much more!

Let the Walk Begin!
Malachi was our second miracle baby born on January 16, 2020. We knew he was going to be small, but we had no idea what else God had in store for us.
At 10 days old, we got genetic testing back and were told he had Trisomy 21. Nervous, scared, worried, anxious and challenging are all words that immediately came to mind after the diagnosis. The day the geneticist spoke to us at the hospital, she gave us information about the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville (DSAJ), and I reached out that day! In the thick of a NICU stay and brand-new diagnosis, I wanted support.
The DSAJ invited us to the office as soon as we wanted to go! Debbie sat down with me and Malachi and discussed how their organization is here to help us. Suddenly I didn’t feel alone, and my worries were eased. The road is different, the therapies and appointments are frequent, but the love Malachi shows to everyone is evident and strong.
The DSAJ has provided financial support to our family, emotional support during hard times, and even a yummy treat basket post-surgery for our family. I am so grateful to have such an active organization in our city to support us on this EXTRA ordinary journey. Malachi’s life is nothing short of incredible! His smile lights up a room, his laugh is contagious, and the love he has for everyone is bigger than one could imagine! He is the toughest little guy I know, and I’m excited to have him grow up with the DSAJ community surrounding and supporting him!
