The DSAJ Board of Directors is a varied and distinguished group of professionals from the Jacksonville area who all have pledged their time, talents and hearts to the betterment of life for individuals with Down syndrome

Jeff Leach

Board President

Previously served as Board President of DSAJ, Jeff is employed by as Senior VP Business Development. Jeff began his term in 2005. Jeff is an active participant in many local charity events. Jeff resides in Jacksonville, FL and has a daughter with Down syndrome. 

Cheriann Cain


Employed by Timus Inc. – Project Manager. Cheriann has been actively involved with the DSAJ for many years. Currently serves as Buddy Walk Carnival Coordinator. Cheriann resides in Jacksonville, FL. 

Stefanie Harrell

Board Secretary

Employed by Bank of America, Stefanie has been an active member of the association for the past 13 years. She began her term in February of 2014. She resides in Orange Park, FL 

Susan Corse-Adams

Parent Advocate

Currently serves on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for CEIDD (Florida Coalition for The Education of Individuals with Developmental Disabilities, Inc.). Susan serves on the Steering Committee for the Arc Jacksonville On-Campus Transition Program @ UNF. Current community involvement focuses on the OCT Program at UNF. Resides in Atlantic Beach, FL and has a daughter with Down syndrome.

Julie Steinkamp


Julie has over 20 years of sales, marketing, journalism, and non-profit experience having worked for companies such as Johnson & Johnson, The Golf Channel, and North Florida School of Special Education. She resides in Jacksonville, FL, with her husband of nearly 20 years and has a son, Luke, with Down syndrome.

Dr. Christopher Emanuel, MD

Health & Medical Expert

Chris serves as a Board Certified Pediatrician in the Jacksonville community. He has served on the DSAJ Board since 2014. Chris resides in Jacksonville, FL. 

Stephanie Westerman

Marketing & Branding

Stephanie focuses on marketing, branding, inclusion and new parent workshops and education. She is employed at GuideWell Connect as a Health Care Solutions Consultant and resides in Jacksonville, FL. Stephanie’s daughter, Juliette, had a post-birth diagnosis of Down syndrome. Personally, Stephanie enjoys family time with her husband Brandon, son Hudson and of course, Juliette. #AdvocateEducateThrive

Kimberly Wait

Community Liaison

Kimberly joined the DSAJ board in 2018 and has impressively accrued more than 20 years of experience as a C-Level Executive Assistant. She currently works with the President and Board of The Bolles School.

Katie Young

Events & Fundraising

Katie joined the DSAJ board in 2018 as a community liaison. She is employed fulltime and resides in Palencia in Saint John’s County.

Jennifer Fry

Advocate with emphasis on adults with Down syndrome

Jennifer joined the DSAJ board in 2018 as a corporate liaison. She is employed by CSX Transportation, resides in Jacksonville, FL and has a brother with Down syndrome.

Bradley W. Johnson, Ph.D.

Education Specialist

Bradley joined the DSAJ board in 2018. He is employed as an Exceptional Education Specialist. Bradley resides in Jacksonville, FL. 

Kristen DeSmidt

Public Relations

Kristen joined the DSAJ board in 2018. She is employed by Daigle Creative as the VP of Operations and Public Relations. Kristen resides in Jacksonville, FL.

Lauren Rautenkranz

Media Specialist

Lauren joined the DSAJ board in 2018. She is a Meteorologist at First Coast News in Jacksonville, Florida specializing in weather forecasting and reporting. Born and raised in Florida, Lauren is thrilled to be a part of the FCN Storm Experts team.

Gisli Magnusson

Inclusion Advocate

Gisli rejoined the DSAJ board in 2018 after a brief LOA. Gisli is employed by Corporate America Credit Union. Gisli resides in Jacksonville, FL and has a daughter with Down syndrome.

Corey Portnoy

Inclusion Advocate

Corey joined the DSAJ board in 2019. He is a Trial Attorney at Morgan & Morgan, P.A. and resides here in Jacksonville. Corey is extremely passionate about working with individuals with intellectual and developmental differences and plays a huge part of our Career Solutions Academy.
