The DSAJ Buddy Walk Turns 20!
Help Us Raise Awareness & Funds for Our Loved Ones with Down Syndrome
The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville is excited to host our 20th Annual Buddy Walk®. This year, Buddy Walk is heading back to the
beach! Our walk will be held on Saturday, October 15, at the Jacksonville Beach SeaWalk Pavilion.
Last year, the Buddy Walk raised more than $320,000 thanks to countless generous contributions from our community! As we look toward 2022’s event, we plan to host more than 3,500 participants from across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, which will provide great publicity and recognition for our sponsors. As always, the day will be centered on celebrating individuals with Down syndrome as well as their families and friends. The walk is one mile down beautiful Jacksonville Beach and back. Our Buddy Walk celebration promises good times, great food, local bands, carnival games and attractions, and much more!

Amelia is a dancing queen, themost loving big sister, is motivated by music and movies and she alsohas mosaic Down syndrome. It’s been just over four years since she made her grand entrance into this world and forever changed our lives when we received her diagnosis and learned God gave Amelia a little something extra.
After she was born, her blood work revealed that 50% of her cells sampled contained the typical 46 chromosomal count, while the other half had a third copy of the 21st chromosome, making her extra special. It took our family some time to understand what Amelia’s diagnosis would mean for her own and our collective futures. However, since finding the DSAJ, it has been an invaluable resource in supporting us and helping us to navigate this journey through connecting with other families in the Ds community. The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville has also organized a great deal of programming which we have taken full advantage of such as informative workshops, play groups and sports teams for our kiddos to get involved in. Lastly, the DSAJ generously supports Amelia and many of her friends who participate in weekly speech, occupational, behavioral and physical therapies, by helping to subsidize the cost of those therapies our kids need and significantly benefit from.
After experiencing all we have in the last four years and having the DSAJ in our corner along with the many resources it provides for it’s families, we are no longer concerned about what Amelia’s Down syndrome diagnosis will mean for her future, as we have learned her life will not be defined by it. Instead, we are taking it day by day, gaining the tools we need to help Amelia reach her full potential, and soaking up this time with our precious gift. We are so
excited to witness everything she will experience and all the lives she will touch throughout her journey!
