Starlight Origins

The organization is dedicated to the loving memories of Jeffrey Sussman, Arnold Lederer & Pauline Lederer. The “S” in Star and the “L” in Light represent their last names. These three individuals had a profound impact on the world, and their passion for helping children is the driving force behind The StarLight Project. Their legacy will live in our hearts forever, and in each child’s dream bedroom.

The StarLight Project also donated their time and talent to decorate the lobby, Lil Stars Landing and baby room in the DSAJ’s new office space!

What is the Starlight Project?

The StarLight Project is a nonprofit organization partnered with the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville that creates dream bedrooms for children in Jacksonville and St. Augustine with special needs. The StarLight Project was founded in 2011 by Craig, Cherie, Eden, Elle and Asher Sussman. They are committed to enhancing the lives of children with all types of intellectual and developmental differences (e.g. Down syndrome, Autism, Cerebral palsy). There is no cost to families chosen for a dream room makeover. The StarLight Project is a LLC of the DSAJ.

Since the home environment is a crucial piece of childhood development, their aim is to create the ultimate learning, playing and relaxing atmosphere inside the child’s home. Based on the child’s needs, this is accomplished by transforming their bedroom into a custom-made dream haven.
